Are you passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers and achieve their potential?
St Giles Trust is looking for dedicated and inspiring Building Futures Mentors to join our innovative, school-based mentoring programme. Working directly within secondary schools (based in Wembley, London), you will provide one-to-one mentoring support to young people in Years 8 to 10 who may be at risk of disengaging from education and facing poorer long-term outcomes
This is an exciting opportunity to use your lived and/or professional experience to build trusted relationships, help young people develop confidence and resilience, and support them in achieving meaningful educational and personal goals.
About the Programme
Building Futures is a fully funded mentoring programme that provides young people with a consistent, trusted adult relationship through weekly one-to-one sessions over a six-month period. The programme aims to improve school engagement, attendance, behaviour, confidence and future aspirations.
As a Building Futures Mentor, you will:
Deliver high-quality one-to-one mentoring to a caseload of young people.
Build positive, trusting relationships that enable young people to recognise their strengths and overcome challenges.
Support students to improve engagement with education, attendance and personal development.
Work collaboratively with school staff, parents/carers and external professionals where appropriate.
Maintain accurate records and contribute to programme monitoring and evaluation activities.
Apply a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach that places the young person at the centre of support.
Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.
What We're Looking For
We welcome applicants with relevant lived experience and/or professional experience supporting young people.
You'll bring:
Experience mentoring, supporting or working with young people facing barriers to education or progression.
The ability to build strong, positive and trusted relationships.
Excellent communication and active listening skills.
An empathetic, non-judgemental and person-centred approach.
Knowledge of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
Confidence working collaboratively with schools, education professionals and partner agencies.
Good digital skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
