SEMH PE Teacher - Immediate Start
Reading, Berkshire Full-Time (5 Days per Week) Temporary to Permanent
Reed Education is proud to be working in partnership with a highly regarded secondary special school in Reading to recruit an outstanding SEMH PE Teacher for an immediate start.
This rewarding opportunity is ideal for a motivated and resilient teacher who is passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will play a key role in using sport, physical activity, and positive relationships to engage students and promote both their physical and emotional wellbeing.
This is a full-time position, working five days per week, with the opportunity to become a permanent member of staff for the right individual.
The Role
- Deliver engaging and inclusive PE lessons to secondary-aged students with a range of additional needs.
- Encourage participation, teamwork, confidence, and resilience through physical education.
- Build positive relationships with students and support their personal development.
- Work collaboratively with teaching and support staff to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Promote positive behaviour and wellbeing throughout the school day.
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
- Significant experience working with SEND students.
- A strong understanding of the barriers faced by young people with additional needs.
- Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
- A patient, flexible, and compassionate approach.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience working within an SEMH setting.
- Experience teaching students with mental health needs.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches and restorative practices.
- Experience within a special school, alternative provision, or specialist education environment.
