SEND Tribunal Officer - Hertfordshire
Rate per day: £400 per day
Working Arrangements: Hybrid preferred, Open to fully remote
We are currently recruiting for an experienced SEND Tribunal Officer to join a Local Authority in Hertfordshire. This role will focus on managing complex SEND Tribunal and appeal casework for children and young people aged 0-25, covering EHC needs assessments, EHCPs, reviews and provision.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex SEND Tribunal and appeal casework, ensuring high-quality and timely responses.
- Represent the Local Authority at SEND Tribunal hearings, defending assessment, provision and placement decisions.
- Coordinate multi-agency responses involving parents, schools, Health, Social Care and other professionals.
- Prepare detailed chronologies, case summaries, evidence and tribunal documentation.
- Chair and coordinate multi-agency meetings, using strong negotiation and influencing skills to seek resolution.
- Provide advice on SEND legislation, statutory duties and the SEND Code of Practice.
- Identify and manage risks relating to tribunals, complaints, litigation and judicial review.
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure statutory deadlines and quality assurance requirements are met.
- Support service improvement, policy development, training and professional guidance within the SEND service.
Person Specification
- Proven experience managing SEND Tribunal appeals and representing a Local Authority at hearings.
- 2-3+ years' experience within SEND, preferably Local Authority experience.
- Strong knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice 2014 and Equality Act 2010.
- Experience managing complex SEND casework, processes and competing priorities.
- Excellent negotiation, influencing and relationship-building skills.
- Experience working with families, schools and multi-disciplinary professionals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently and to tight deadlines.
- Confident analysing information, compiling reports and maintaining accurate case management records.
