Job Title: English Teacher
Location: The Tower School, Epping, CM16 4BA
Hours: 37.5 per week Monday to Friday
Salary: Up to £43,000 per annum (depending on experience, not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent Term Time Only

About the Role

We're looking for an enthusiastic and creative English Teacher to join The Tower School, combining engaging classroom teaching with the opportunity to take the lead on reading across the school.

This is an opportunity to make English meaningful for pupils who may have experienced barriers to learning. You'll create lessons that capture their interest, build confidence and help them develop the literacy and communication skills they need for education, independence and their future.

Alongside teaching English, you'll champion reading throughout the school, developing initiatives that encourage pupils to engage with books and helping colleagues embed literacy and reading into everyday learning.

What you will be doing

  • Plan and deliver creative and engaging English lessons that respond to individual learning needs
  • Inspire pupils to develop confidence in English, literacy, communication and reading
  • Lead and develop whole school reading initiatives, helping create a positive culture around reading
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting teaching and support to help each learner achieve meaningful outcomes
  • Use effective classroom management and behaviour support strategies to help pupils successfully engage with learning
  • Work collaboratively with education, support and care colleagues to provide consistent and personalised support
  • Contribute to English curriculum development and whole school improvement, sharing ideas and effective practice
  • Support pupils' wider personal, social and emotional development alongside their academic progress

What you will be bring

We're looking for an English Teacher who believes progress starts with understanding the individual learner.

You'll need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching English across relevant key stages
  • A genuine passion for English, literacy, reading and language development
  • The creativity and flexibility to engage pupils who may previously have experienced barriers to learning
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour support skills
  • The ability to build positive relationships and create an environment where pupils feel confident to participate and learn
  • Excellent communication and collaborative working skills
  • A commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for young people

The Tower School is an independent specialist day school in Epping, Essex, supporting 62 pupils aged 11-18 with autism and complex needs.
