SWOOD Technical Designer

Our client produces high-quality commercial furniture for the workplace and are renowned for finely detailed, beautifully made furniture. They work closely with Furniture Dealers and Fit-out Companies on a variety of prestigious projects and are now looking for an experienced SWOOD Technical Designer to join their internal Design & Development team. This is a specialist role for someone who enjoys working at the point where design meets production and who has a strong understanding of furniture manufacture.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing a library of panel styles and components, creating detailed SWOOD models and generating the cutting lists, BOMs and exploded drawings that provide the essential information required by the factory.

A key part of the role will be migrating and replicating the company's existing standard furniture portfolio from SolidWorks into detailed SWOOD models, as well as creating and maintaining SWOOD library parts and templates. You will then use these to adapt existing designs or develop new solutions for tailored and bespoke projects.

As the technical "gatekeeper" of SWOOD, you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate information flows from the Design team through to Production. Reporting to the Head of Design, you will work closely with the Head of Production and have daily interaction with the wider design team, production management and the CNC team.

As the SWOOD Technical Designer you will have:

• Strong experience using SWOOD within furniture, cabinetry or joinery.
• Excellent 3D modelling and technical drawing skills.
• A good understanding of furniture construction, materials, hardware and manufacturing processes.
• Experience producing cutting lists, BOMs and CNC / manufacturing data.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and resolve technical and manufacturing issues.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with Design and Production teams.

This is an important role within the business, with the opportunity to make a real impact on how technical information is created and transferred into production. There is also plenty of scope for the position to develop and grow into other areas of the business in the future.

The role is office-based full time in South Buckinghamshire, so living within a reasonable commuting distance is important.
