About the Role
We are recruiting for an experienced Income & Recovery Officer to join a Reading-based Local Authority on a 4-month temporary assignment within the Client Finances team.
This role focuses on Adult Social Care income collection and recovery, delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service while supporting residents to manage their accounts and access financial support.
Working Arrangements
- Hybrid role - primarily home-based
- Attendance required at Civic Offices, Reading for meetings and appointments
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a high-quality customer service across multiple channels (face-to-face, telephone, email and digital)
- Support residents to understand their accounts and access appropriate advice, including:
- Welfare benefits
- Financial support
- Digital inclusion services
- Manage and progress recovery of unpaid Adult Social Care invoices
- Negotiate and agree realistic and affordable repayment arrangements
- Prepare cases for legal action where necessary, in line with legislation and council policy
- Support billing and invoicing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Assist with payment collection activities, including Direct Debit administration
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on council systems
- Handle sensitive information in accordance with data protection and information governance requirements
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience in income recovery, debt collection, or revenues within a local authority setting
- Experience working with Adult Social Care finance (highly desirable)
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically
- Experience managing casework and recovery processes end-to-end
- Good understanding of welfare benefits and financial support services (desirable)
- Ability to handle sensitive situations professionally and confidentially
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
