Reading (Hybrid Working) Full-Time Immediate Start - 4 Month Contract £14.59 PAYE / £18.00 Umbrella

About the Role

We are recruiting for an experienced Income & Recovery Officer to join a Reading-based Local Authority on a 4-month temporary assignment within the Client Finances team.

This role focuses on Adult Social Care income collection and recovery, delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service while supporting residents to manage their accounts and access financial support.

Working Arrangements

  • Hybrid role - primarily home-based
  • Attendance required at Civic Offices, Reading for meetings and appointments

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a high-quality customer service across multiple channels (face-to-face, telephone, email and digital)
  • Support residents to understand their accounts and access appropriate advice, including:
    • Welfare benefits
    • Financial support
    • Digital inclusion services
  • Manage and progress recovery of unpaid Adult Social Care invoices
  • Negotiate and agree realistic and affordable repayment arrangements
  • Prepare cases for legal action where necessary, in line with legislation and council policy
  • Support billing and invoicing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Assist with payment collection activities, including Direct Debit administration
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on council systems
  • Handle sensitive information in accordance with data protection and information governance requirements

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience in income recovery, debt collection, or revenues within a local authority setting
  • Experience working with Adult Social Care finance (highly desirable)
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically
  • Experience managing casework and recovery processes end-to-end
  • Good understanding of welfare benefits and financial support services (desirable)
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations professionally and confidentially
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
