Ocean Export Manager

Ocean Export Manager (Mon-Fri 08.45-17.15. Office based)

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Export Ocean Freight Manager to oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of our clients Ocean Export department. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team, ensuring operational excellence, maintaining strong customer relationship and driving service quality whilst ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in freight forwarding, ocean exports and operational management, with excellent working knowledge of CargoWise.

Operational Management

• Manage the daily activities of the Ocean Export department.
• Oversee export shipments from booking through to final destination.
• Ensure all shipments are processed accurately and within agreed service levels.
• Ensure all export documentation is completed correctly and in compliance with international shipping regulations.
• Maintain excellent relationships with container shipping lines, overseas agents, hauliers and other service providers.

Team Leadership

• Lead, motivate and develop the Ocean Export team.
• Conduct performance reviews and support employee development plans.

Financial Responsibilities

• Ensure all shipment files are billed accurately and within required timescales.
• Monitor departmental profitability and gross profit performance.
• Approve supplier invoices and resolve any discrepancies.
• Identify opportunities to maximise revenue and improve margins.

Compliance & Quality

• Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements, UK/EU customs regulations and company procedures.
• Maintain awareness of industry regulations and market changes.
• Support internal and external audits when required.

Systems

• Utilise and maintain accurate records within CargoWise One.
• Produce departmental reports and KPI metrics using CargoWise and internal reporting tools.

Skills & Experience Required

Essential

• Minimum 5 years' freight forwarding experience within Ocean Exports.
• Previous supervisory or management experience.
• Strong operational knowledge of FCL and LCL export shipments.
• Proven experience using CargoWise One.
• Excellent understanding of international shipping documentation and procedures.
• Strong commercial awareness and financial understanding.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
