Temporary Finance Officer, Woodley area within a school

Reed Education is seeking an experienced and proactive Finance Officer to join a specialist education setting on a temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong administrative and accounting skills to play a key role in supporting the effective management of school finances.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Finance & Office Manager and wider school staff to ensure the smooth and accurate operation of financial processes, helping to maximise resources while maintaining compliance with financial procedures and regulations.

As Finance Officer, you will be responsible for providing financial and administrative support across a busy school environment. You will manage key finance functions including accounts payable, income processing, reconciliations, budget support, and financial reporting.

You will liaise regularly with staff, governors, suppliers, auditors, local authorities, and other external stakeholders, ensuring a professional and efficient service at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable and Financial Administration

  • Manage the accounts payable process from purchase order through to payment.
  • Liaise with finance colleagues to set up new suppliers.
  • Support staff with procurement processes and raising orders.
  • Process invoices, prepare payments for authorisation, and assist with payment runs.
  • Investigate supplier queries and reconcile supplier accounts.
  • Process staff expense claims and direct debit transactions.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with budget preparation, monitoring, and forecasting.
  • Produce financial reports for budget holders as required.
  • Support users of Access Finance or similar financial systems.
  • Assist with monthly and year-end financial processes.
  • Monitor financial transactions and ensure compliance with established procedures.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential

  • A good standard of education, including GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience within a finance, accounts, or bookkeeping role.
  • Strong understanding of accounting procedures and financial processes.
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work.
  • Experience managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional standards.
