Essentia, part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, is seeking an experienced Housekeeping Manager to lead the implementation and operational delivery of housekeeping and rapid response services across the Trust's estate. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Housekeeping, the role will translate legal, national and Trust requirements into safe, compliant and effective operational practice, while providing expert leadership to site-based teams.
Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is one of the country's largest and busiest NHS trusts, comprising Guy's, St Thomas', Evelina London Children's Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield, alongside community services in Lambeth and Southwark. Its services are supported by a complex, operationally critical estate where safety, cleanliness, resilience and the patient experience are paramount.
Essentia is the Trust's operational and infrastructure delivery group, bringing together more than 2,500 colleagues across a wide range of essential operational, technical and environmental services. Its housekeeping and rapid response teams play a critical role in maintaining consistently safe, clean and welcoming environments for patients, visitors and staff.
The Housekeeping Manager will lead the implementation of housekeeping standards, operating procedures, performance measures and local audit regimes across the GSTT estate. Working through a site-based leadership team overseeing nearly 700 colleagues, they will ensure services are flexible, efficient, resilient and compliant with statutory, regulatory and national standards. The role will also lead continuous service improvement, performance management, contingency planning and readiness for regulatory inspection.
The successful candidate will bring an extensive track record of leading housekeeping, cleaning or comparable soft facilities services within a large, complex NHS, healthcare or similarly regulated environment. They will demonstrate detailed knowledge of healthcare housekeeping requirements, together with evidence of improving quality, compliance, productivity, cost efficiency and the patient experience.
This is a highly visible operational leadership role requiring strong financial, risk and workforce management skills, alongside the ability to build effective relationships with clinical teams, senior leaders, external partners and suppliers. The appointed individual will be a compassionate, inclusive and accountable leader who can motivate large and diverse teams, create a psychologically safe culture and model the Trust's values of caring, ambition and inclusion.
The successful applicant will be required to work on site five days per week, work one weekend every three months and participate in the directorate on-call rota.
