Location: Westminster, London (expectation of working from our office at least 1 day a week)

Salary: c£70,000 to £75,000, depending on experience

Start date: We expect to complete all interviews in September, with the successful candidate joining the team as soon as possible thereafter, subject to reference checks and notice period.

The Centre for Long-Term Resilience (CLTR) is a UK-based, non-profit and independent think tank with a mission to transform global resilience to extreme AI and biological risks. We achieve this by working with governments and institutions, offering targeted, evidence-based advice designed to enhance understanding, decision-making and governance.

The Role

The Biosecurity Fellowship Manager is a new and exciting role within our growing biosecurity unit. Reporting to the Associate Director for Biosecurity, this role will lead the development and implementation of the new Biosecurity Fellowship Programme pilot, which is an important part of our 'people first' value, enabling a high-performing cohort of biosecurity expertise in the UK system.

This is a broad role that covers a range of responsibilities from strategic to operational. It would suit an organised, delivery-focused professional who can quickly establish trusting relationships. You will build on an initial scope of work submitted and approved by funders, with significant opportunity to influence its development and deployment. You will undertake key stakeholder engagement, craft roadmaps and plans to ensure delivery of a high-quality programme, and then lead on delivery at pace. You will ensure a long-term, objective evaluation of the programme is conducted. This is a pilot programme on a fixed-term basis, with the potential for a permanent position, subject to review.

What you'll do:

Planning and strategy

• Understand and assimilate the strategic context in which the Fellowship would operate.
• Create roadmaps for delivery of the Fellowship to ensure organisational understanding of aims, objectives, deadlines and tasks.
• Draft and drive the implementation of the strategic plan for the Fellowship, including a comprehensive curriculum of Biosecurity fellowship opportunities.
• Ensure SMT and other key stakeholders understand and can mitigate key risks, challenges and opportunities.

Delivery

• Deliver the Fellowship at all stages from advertisement, selection, onboarding and delivery.
• Ensure Biosecurity Unit staff are equipped with the right tools to lead activities with Fellows.
• Work closely with Unit SLT to refine approaches to all elements of the Fellowship.
• Conduct a formal evaluation of the pilot, incorporating success criteria, metrics and lessons learned captured throughout the fellowship process.
• Handle all day-to-day pastoral care of Fellows throughout the process.

Organisational Development

• Act as the primary POC for the Fellowship, both internally and externally.
• Play an active role in fostering a well-organised, collaborative, and mission-aligned working culture.
• Any other tasks as reasonably requested by your line manager.

Person Specification

Essential

• Experience in directly supporting or running a similar fellowship programme.
• Proven record of delivering high-quality programmes under short deadlines.
• Skilled in rapidly building trusted relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
• The ability to assimilate a broad range of inputs and information into actionable delivery.
• Experience in supporting and leading a team either directly or in a coaching, mentoring or pastoral role.
• Strong self-management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively under minimal supervision.
• Ability to design and position a fellowship programme so it advances the goals of an organisation.

Desirable

• Experience working in a not-for-profit, think tank, research organisation, or similarly mission-driven environment.
• Project management qualification such as PRINCE2 or Agile.
• Experience supporting organisational scaling or managing change in a growing team.

Location and Travel Requirements

Flexible location within the UK, with the expectation of attending our central London office at least one day a week, including Mondays. We are open to discussing remote and flexible working arrangements with candidates.

Salary and Benefits
