Islington (with 3 days in the office, with core hours 10 - 4pm)

The Advice and Navigation Manager is responsible for our charitty's advice, navigation and social prescribing services, ensuring that residents, particularly those experiencing inequality, exclusion or multiple disadvantage, receive high quality, safe and effective support that helps them navigate complex systems and address interlinked social, economic and health challenges.

The role provides strong, values-led service leadership, with a particular focus on supporting and developing staff and volunteers who work in close proximity to residents and communities. Through effective supervision, reflective practice and clear accountability, the role creates the conditions for staff to exercise professional judgement, share insight from practice and deliver consistent, person centred support.

Working collaboratively with delivery colleagues, partners and senior leadership, the Advice and Navigation Manager ensures services are well coordinated, responsive to local need and grounded in learning from lived experience. Through this approach, the role helps translate our values and strategic intent into practice, contributes to fairer outcomes for residents, and strengthens how the wider local system works for communities. The role operates through a co-management arrangement, with shared responsibility for service leadership, quality and performance, alongside clearly agreed individual responsibilities.

Person Specification Essential Experience

  • Significant experience of working in client-focused advice, navigation or support services in a community, voluntary or health setting.
  • Experience of line managing staff and/or volunteers, including supervision and performance management.
  • Experience of delivering services that support people experiencing inequality, exclusion or multiple disadvantage.
  • Proven experience of partnership working across voluntary, community, statutory and/or NHS sectors.
  • Experience of using data, insight and feedback to inform service improvement and demonstrate impact.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience of managing or working closely with social prescribing services in primary care and/or advice services in the community.
  • Relevant qualification in advice, guidance, health, social care or management.
  • Experience of service development and managing change.
  • Experience of leading hybrid or community-based teams.

Skills

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to support, challenge and develop staff through effective supervision and performance management.
  • Ability to provide clear direction while working collaboratively within a co-management arrangement.
  • Ability to oversee service quality, safeguarding and compliance, and to exercise sound professional judgement in complex situations.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage confidently with staff, partners and senior colleagues.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and manage workloads across teams to ensure safe and sustainable delivery.
  • Ability to work constructively across organisational and professional boundaries.
  • Digital confidence, including use of case management systems and performance monitoring tools.

Knowledge and understanding

  • Understanding of how poverty, health inequality, housing insecurity and social isolation interact in people's lives.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, data protection, confidentiality, health and safety and lone working requirements within service delivery.
  • Understanding of person centred, strengths based and relational practice.
  • Understanding of how learning from frontline practice and lived experience can inform service improvement and system change.
