We are looking for experienced and passionate SEN Tutors to join our team and provide high-quality 1:1 tuition to primary-aged students across Southend-on-Sea.

We have a growing number of tuition referrals available, with individual students typically requiring 10-15 hours of support per week. These are rewarding roles where tutors can provide personalised education to children who may currently be unable to access a mainstream school setting or require additional support to engage with learning.

About the students

Our referrals cover a wide range of Special Educational Needs, so no two students are the same. Students may have needs relating to areas such as:

  • Autism and social communication needs

  • ADHD and attention difficulties

  • SEMH needs

  • Speech, language and communication needs

  • Moderate learning difficulties

  • Specific learning difficulties

  • Global developmental delay

  • Anxiety and school-based barriers to learning

  • Sensory and/or physical needs

We are looking for tutors who can adapt their approach and create a calm, supportive and engaging learning environment around each individual child.

The role

As an SEN Tutor, you will provide personalised 1:1 tuition, helping students to maintain or develop their academic skills while also building confidence, engagement and positive attitudes towards learning.

Depending on the student's needs, this may include supporting English, Maths, phonics, reading, writing and wider curriculum areas, alongside developing communication, independence and learning skills.

You will be expected to:

  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the student.

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons.

  • Adapt your teaching to the student's individual SEN profile.

  • Work at the student's current level and pace.

  • Use creative and practical approaches to maintain engagement.

  • Support confidence, independence and motivation.

  • Communicate appropriately with parents/carers and the tuition team.

  • Maintain clear records of progress and engagement.

About you

We welcome applications from qualified teachers, SEN teachers, experienced tutors, HLTA/TA professionals and experienced SEN practitioners.

You should have:

  • Experience working with primary-aged children.

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN/EHCPs.

  • A patient, nurturing and flexible approach.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • The ability to differentiate learning and respond to individual needs.

  • Reliability and the ability to commit to regular weekly sessions.

What we offer

  • Competitive pay rates

  • 10-15 hours per week per student

  • Regular SEN tuition opportunities across Southend

  • 1:1 personalised teaching

  • Flexible opportunities based around your availability

  • Ongoing support from our tuition team

  • Opportunities for continued work with additional referrals

  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference to children's education, confidence and wellbeing

If you're an experienced SEN Tutor looking for rewarding 1:1 work with primary-aged students in Southend, we'd love to hear from you.
