Salary: Up to £45,500 depending on skills and experience

Job Description:

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will apply knowledge and understanding to engineering theories, concepts, practices, principles and approaches and be able to apply theoretical engineering knowledge, experience and skills to develop products and services, specifications, designs and developments to resolve technical and performance issues. You will also design and develop solutions to a limited range of engineering situations and issues.

Core Duties:

  • Apply knowledge, skill and experience in company products, services, approaches, techniques and governance and work under technical supervision to resolve common engineering problems on a range of standard products and services
  • Undertake functional design and/or provide advice and qualification for the scope of responsibility and provide evidence for acceptance, fitness for purpose, regulatory & legislative requirements and safety
  • Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders as required ensuring that their requirements are adequately supported and that their needs are fully considered and incorporated where appropriate and agreed
  • Provide support for assurance that the design in adequate i.e. it is robust and provide supporting documentation for the safety case
  • Apply theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge, experience and skills to develop products & services, specifications, designs and developments
  • Work as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team and have the capability to assess your own designs from a manufacturing perspective

Essential Skills:

  • You will have a HNC or above in Mechanical Engineering
  • You will have experience using Siemans NX and Teamcentre
  • You will have experience using 2D CAD packages such as AutoCAD
  • You will be capable of generating customer facing documents such as reports and technical memorandums
  • You will have specific knowledge of Systems on Boats

Working alongside a highly skilled and motivated team, you will be involved in solving complex engineering challenges and contributing to the delivery of world-leading defence solutions.

Beyond this programme, you will have the chance to collaborate with the wider Future Products Team, who are currently designing and manufacturing Herne, our Extra Large Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (XLAUV).
