Finance Assistant

Our client is seeking an experienced Finance Assistant to join their finance team on a 3-month fixed-term contract. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous experience within the independent school sector who can quickly integrate into a busy finance function and provide valuable support during a critical reporting period.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting month-end and year-end activities, maintaining financial records, and ensuring accurate reconciliations across a range of balance sheet accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Support month-end and year-end accounting processes.
- Prepare and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including:
- Fixed Assets
- Prepayments
- Fees in Advance
- Investigate and resolve reconciliation queries and outstanding items.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
- Assist with bank reconciliations, journal postings, and general ledger maintenance.
- Support day-to-day finance operations, including purchase ledger, sales ledger, and cashbook activities.
- Utilise PASS to process and maintain pupil-related financial information.
- Assist with audit preparation and provide supporting documentation as required.
- Provide flexible support to the wider finance team during periods of increased workload.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Previous experience working within the independent school sector.
- Strong working knowledge of PASS.
- Proven experience completing balance sheet reconciliations.
- Good understanding of month-end accounting processes.
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines.
- A proactive and hands-on approach with the ability to work independently.
Desirable
- Experience supporting year-end audit processes.
- Knowledge of fee accounting and school finance procedures.
- Experience within an education or charitable organisation.
