Harris Academy Battersea is a mixed state secondary school serving a truly comprehensive community in the heart of London. Summary

We are seeking an exceptional Science practitioner to join the Harris Federation Secondary Central Quadrant as a Lead Science Teacher, working across our academies as required, with an initial deployment at Harris Academy Battersea and Harris Academy Peckham.

This is a unique opportunity for an outstanding teacher to work across multiple settings, broaden their leadership experience, and have a significant impact on teaching, learning and student outcomes. The successful candidate will be an exemplary classroom practitioner with a proven track record of securing excellent outcomes for students. They will demonstrate a deep understanding of effective Science pedagogy and a commitment to raising standards for all learners.

In this role, you will be accountable for the progress and achievement of the students you teach while also contributing to the professional development of colleagues through coaching, modelling best practice, and supporting the delivery of high-quality teaching across the academies.

Main Areas of Responsibility

As Central Quadrant Lead Teacher for Science, you will work closely with allocated schools within the Central Quadrant.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Teaching key examination groups, with up to an 80% teaching commitment
• Delivering outstanding teaching and modelling best practice across the department
• Planning and delivering a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum
• Monitoring and supporting student progress, attainment and personal development
• Creating an engaging learning environment that enables all students to achieve their potential
• Supporting the academies' commitment to high standards of academic and personal growth
• Driving improvement within the Science departments to achieve ambitious targets
• Implementing targeted intervention strategies to raise student outcomes
• Delivering professional development and student intervention programmes
• Coaching and mentoring colleagues to enhance teaching and learning
• Acting as a positive, approachable and collaborative role model for staff
• Keeping subject knowledge up to date and engaging in ongoing professional development
• Demonstrating initiative, flexibility and a focus on delivering successful outcomes

Qualifications & Experience

We would like to hear if you have:

• QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree
• At least three years' teaching experience
• At least two years in a management role.
• Experience of teaching Science to A-Level
• Clear evidence of having raised standards of achievement at all levels
• Successful experience of curriculum development
• Experience in observing and evaluating teacher quality, and providing feedback
• Experience of setting specific targets and managing improvement across a Key Stage or more widely
• Successful experience in a multi-ethnic inner city school
• Evidence of being an excellent teacher
• Strong knowledge of the national curriculum programme of study for the subject and of current subject developments
